If you like Metallica's Ride the Lightning, you'll love this. All the tracks are amazing, only one slow one (the ballad). My favourite tracks were Envy Life and Sins of Omission. If you are a true speed/thrash metal fan, you have to have this CD in your collection.

Tag: testament practice what you preach vintage rock rock n roll rock universe

Scorpions - Blackout

Line-up:
Klaus Meine (vocals)
Rudolf Schenker (acoustic & electric guitars, background vocals)
Matthias Jabs (acoustic & electric guitars)
Francis Buchholz (bass)
Herman Rarebell (drums).

Recorded at Villa San Pecaire, St. Jacques-Grasse, France and Dierks Studios, Cologne, Germany

This album is one of the greatest metal releases of all-time. The opening 7 tracks are pure classic and the highlights are 'Blackout', 'No one like you', 'Now' & 'Dynamite'. For me, what stops this from being the best is the last 2 songs, both filler. 'China White' is a knock-off shot at 'Dazed & Confused' while '...Smoke' is a dull ballad that fails to ignite. However, Jabs played a blinder on this, Rudi was churning out great riffs and Meine has never sounded better.

Tag: scorpions blackout vintage rock rock n roll rock universe

Skid Row - self title

Line-up:
Sebastian Bach (vocals)
Dave "The Snake" Sabo, Scotti Hill (guitar)
Rachel Bolan (bass)
Rob Affuso (drums)

Recorded at Royal Recorders, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.

This debut still stands as a bracing fusion of street smart riffage, riddled with commercial hooks....Not quite a classic but certainly a notable debut.
Their sound coalesced around Moore's burn-up blues guitaring....Cream, Allman Brothers and Hendrix are obvious influences....they had a spare intensity all their own...

Tracklisting:
1. Upon first hearing it, I too had to try my hand at the sublime 'Far Beyond The Sun' but it didn't take me hours to learn, neither did 'Icarus Dream Suite', another highly complex piece. 'Black Star' lulls one into a false sense of security before ripping you up, while 'Little Savage' is just that. Fabulous guitar, no doubt about it but, overall, this isn't a great rock album. Too few vocals and rubbish lyrics as well, plus they could've done with Cozy Powell or Tommy Aldridge on the drums. Still, a fine debut from the Swede.

Tracklisting:
1. Black Star
2. Far Beyond The Sun
3. Now Your Ships Are Burned
4. It is the band's second release, and a vast improvement over RICHIE BLACKMORE'S RAINBOW. With a revamped lineup that sounds like it had been touring together for years, the album takes no prisoners. "Starstruck" is a classic groove reminiscent of guitarist Blackmore's ex-band Deep Purple. Blackmore replaced everyone from the first album's lineup except vocalist Ronnie Dio with Jimmy Bain (bass), Tony Carey (keyboards), and Cozy Powell (drums). Dio shows what he's got with a stellar performance on "Do You Close Your Eyes." "Stargazer" is the band's "Kashmir," an epic eight-minute track that could stand as its signature song. "A Light in the Black" features the skin bashing of the late, great Mr. Powell. RISING is a must-have for any fan of Dio, Blackmore, or classic metal. Five musicians came together for a one-shot moment that won't be duplicated. The album is magic.

Tracklisting:
1. Tarot Woman
2. Quite simply put, no-one had seen or heard anything like it. Roth's flamboyant showmanship, with the microphone dangling provocatively between his legs on the cover, and Eddie Van Halen's monstrously inventive guitar playing became a textbook for air guitarists the world over. From the instrumental blow-out of "Eruption," the gritty teen pop of "Feel Your Love Tonight," to the strutting riff around which "Ain't Talkin' Bout Love" was built and the grandiose reworking of The Kinks' "You Really Got Me," Van Halen set their own absurd standards. One of the truly great rock and roll/metal debut albums.

Tracklisting:
1. Runnin' With The Devil
2. Eruption
3. W.A.S.P.'s second full-length release, THE LAST COMMAND, showed that leader/principal songwriter Blackie Lawless was attempting to write better songs. While some of the tracks still contain the gross-out element that made the band's debut a success, Lawless wanted the public to start taking his band more seriously, and not focus so much on W.A.S.P.'s stage antics. Though THE LAST COMMAND is not as challenging as such future albums as THE HEADLESS CHILDREN and THE CRIMSON IDOL would be, 1985's THE LAST COMMAND contained several tracks that would become concert staples for years to come. Two of the album's best-known tracks remain "Wild Child" and "Blind in Texas," along with the not-so-subtly-titled "Ballcrusher" and "Jack Action."

Tracklisting:
1. Includes interviews conducted by Alan K. Stout. Whereas Motley Crue's 1981 debut TOO FAST FOR LOVE was glam rock-based (both musically and visually), 1983's now-classic sophomore effort, SHOUT AT THE DEVIL, had more in common with heavy metal. The album served as The Crue's commercial breakthrough, going double-platinum shortly after it's release (and eventually reaching quadruple-platinum status) and spawning several popular MTV videos. Motley Crue toured behind SHOUT as an opener for Ozzy Osbourne, and the success of the album also helped open the floodgates for the L.A. metal scene. SHOUT AT THE DEVIL is undoubtedly Motley Crue's all-time best. The set includes anthems galore (the title track, "Looks That Kill," and the melodic "Too Young to Fall in Love"), lesser-known tales of sex, violence, and sin ("Bastard," "Red Hot," "Knock 'Em Dead Kid," "Ten Seconds to Love," "Danger"), and a vicious cover of The Beatles' "Helter Skelter." All the tracks are winners. SHOUT's satanic cover imagery and graphic lyrics drew fire from religious organizations, as did the band's rock mag-fueled hedonistic reputation. Nonetheless, SHOUT AT THE DEVIL remains one of the finest metal albums of the '80s.

Tracklisting:

1. In The Beginning
2. But, for a while at least, Twisted Sister gave them heated competition. While the Crue and their L.A. cohorts (Ratt, Dokken, etc.) were dead-serious in their approach, Twisted Sister's music and videos always contained an element of humor-something most bands of the era sorely lacked. 1984's STAY HUNGRY was Twisted Sister's double-platinum breakthrough, its popularity spurred by the imaginative (and hilarious) videos for the hits "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock." The Long Island-based Twisted Sister built a solid following, gigging constantly since the early '70s and riding on the strength of such albums as UNDER THE BLADE and YOU CAN'T STOP ROCK N' ROLL. All of which set the band up for STAY HUNGRY. Singer Dee Snider proved to quite an intimidating figure, bedecked in garish make-up and transvestite gear, and his outspoken personality carried Twisted Sister's songs and stage-show. STAY HUNGRY proved to be the band's finest hour, containing such tracks as "Burn In Hell," "The Price," "S.M.F.," "Horror-Teria," and "Stay Hungry" itself. Unfortunately, Twisted Sister was unable to sustain such success, and the band broke up only a few years later.

Tracklisting:

1. Stay Hungry
2. When Whitesnake hit it big in the late '80s with its power-pop/metal one-two punch, many new fans were unaware that earlier in the band's career, David Coverdale and co. were straight ahead, bluesy hard rockers, especially on their 1982 release, SAINTS & SINNERS. The album is best known amongst longtime Whitesnake fans as the one that features two songs that would be re-recorded and molded into melodic rockers for the band's 1987 U.S. commercial breakthrough, WHITESNAKE--"Crying in the Rain" and "Here I Go Again." Also included were such lesser-known highlights as "Young Blood," "Bloody Luxury," and "Rough An' Ready," making SAINTS & SINNERS one of the fiercest, most rocking albums of Whitesnake's career.

Tracklisting:

1. Digitally remastered by Suha Ger (Universal Music Group Studios). In the early '80s, many of the top metal acts of the past had either disbanded or soldiered on despite the loss of founding members. Deep Purple had officially disbanded in 1976, with only two original members present in the final lineup, but by 1984, the classic lineup of vocalist Ian Gillan, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, bassist Roger Glover, drummer Ian Paice, and keyboardist Jon Lord had reunited. Responsible for such classics as MACHINE HEAD and MADE IN JAPAN, the group was considered amongst metal's elite, and judging from its first comeback album, 1984's PERFECT STRANGERS, DEEP PURPLE hadn't lost its magic touch in the slightest. The album was a major worldwide hit, going platinum in the U.S., and spawning several rock radio hits. Despite the changes that occurred in the musical landscape during the band's absence, the group did not change its sound much for the reunion, sticking to the ingredients that made them so exceptional in the first place--Gillan's wailing vocals, Blackmore's shredding guitar, and the rock-steady three-part rhythm section. The title track recalls Led Zeppelin's sprawling epics ("Kashmir," etc.), while the melodic rockers "Knocking At Your Back Door" and "Nobody's Home" prove to be standouts as well.

Tracklisting:

1.Knockin' At Your Back Door
2. Despite recording two hit studio albums with Black Sabbath (1980's HEAVEN AND HELL and 1981's THE MOB RULES) and playing throughout the world to huge crowds, Ronnie James Dio left the band in 1982-the year of his final release with Sabbath, the in-concert LIVE EVIL. As soon as the announcement of his departure was made official, Dio began to put together his first solo project. Joining him were former Rainbow bandmate Jimmy Bain on bass, former Sabbath bandmate Vinny Appice on drums, ex-Sweet Savage guitar hero Vivian Campbell, and newcomer Claude Schnell on keyboards. HOLY DIVER, Dio's band debut, was issued in 1983. The album quickly became a favorite among headbangers worldwide and eventually earned the group platinum certification. The somewhat upbeat sounding "Rainbow in the Dark" was an MTV favorite, while the plodding title track proved to be another standout. Other album highlights include the opening anthem "Stand Up and Shout," "Invisible," and "Don't Talk to Strangers." HOLY DIVER proved that Dio's departure from Black Sabbath had not affected his spirits. In fact, he sounds most inspired here, aided by his new, hungry backing band.

Tracklisting:

1. Stand Up And Shout
2.
